Free ebooks are available online on just about every topic imaginable. Free ebooks can be an excellent source of content for a website for example, or can be used as a basis for creating a unique book or product. It is important to check the rights that the author has placed on the ebook before using it for your own purposes. Some free ebooks come with private label rights which means that the ebook can be edited in any way, i.e. changing the title, the format, the content - and even putting your own name on it as the author. This can become a very profitable enterprise in itself; by using free ebooks as an outline, you can rewrite the content in your own style to make a unique product to sell online in a fraction of the time that it would take to write from scratch.
Other free ebooks come with resell rights, or master resell rights, which means that you can sell the ebook if you wish, as long as you do not change the content in any way. The resell rights wording can vary; some authors may grant you a little flexibility and allow you to change part of the ebook, so it pays to read the small print every time.
Another amazing source of free ebooks is the public domain. Many historic books by famous authors are in the public domain - and can be freely used or altered, as long as you check your country's laws on their use, and ensure that the book is indeed in the public domain before you proceed.
